The vocalist, who has appeared here with other groups,
is putting together her own program for this date.
Reedman Dan Levinson will be in the band, with opportunities for
solos and full instrumentals too. The unique rhythm section behind
them is made up entirely of celebrated string players: Tom
Landman and Matt Munisteri playing guitars, with Brian
Nalepka on
bass. This is an interesting way to capitalize on the intimacy of
Mancini Hall.
"Ryan is quite a find," writes Harvey Barkan in the American Rag. He notes she has an "expressive full voice and the right sound for this kind of music, with a believable presentation." Molly performs some endearing vocals drawn from the classic period of jazz and swing. She's sung for us often at Bridgewater and The Bickford, and has been featured at the Hot Steamed and Orange County Classic jazz Festivals, among others. This series is temporarily quartered at the Toms River Library building while its home at Ocean County College is under renovation. It's less than a mile from Parkway exit 81; directions below. Request tickets, directions from the OCC Box Office at (732) 255-0500. Concerts are one long set, from 8 to 9:30 PM, allowing working people to attend and still get home at a decent hour.
