Return to NJJS

Monday, March 22, 8 PM. This is Django Reinhardt's centennial year, so you are likely to see a lot of groups being cobbled together to play something using that theme. Guitar master Frank Vignola ("unbelievable speed," says Downbeat, and a liquid, ringing tone in the Reinhardt style.") always has had a repertoire steeped in the material of the great Gypsy Jazz guitarist, so it was no problem for him to assemble his Hot Club Quintet for this tribute. Great players backing him too, including Gary Mazzaroppi on string bass, plus Julian Labro playing accordion, Zach Brock on violin and a second (rhythm) guitar played by Vinny Raniolo. Frank is taking them on a world tour this year, and this NJ visit is an early stop. Also a chance to get their new CD with Frank's favorite Django pieces.

Weekday concerts at The Bickford are one long set, from 8 to 9:30 PM, allowing working people to attend and still get home at a decent hour. The tab is reasonable too: only $15 in advance, $18 at the door (less for Morris Museum members). Pick up your prepaid tickets in the express line that night (suggested), or have them mailed for $1 per order (if you insist). Ticket info below.

The New Jesey Jazz Society is a proud co-sponsor of Jazz at the Bickford Theater.
